4. Do I need any training? What? Where? When?
Training! You’re thinking hard work, study, years of commitment right? Well maybe, but maybe not. It really depends on what you plan to do & who you are doing it with! Yes preparation is required, but this will vary depending on your situation. The best thing to do is talk with someone who is doing what you would like to do or a rep from a mission agency you are keen on.
Training preparation can range from a seminar, an intensive live in week to full time Bible College. Some courses are accredited and even have Austudy approval; some are run in house with particular mission agencies or are missions interlink courses! [We have run 2 so far in 2010 –

The goals of this preparation phase are not only to prepare you for your cross-cultural setting and effective relationship building, but so that you will be able to think & reflect theologically. It is an important part of the journey, but it doesn’t look the same for each person.
